Description: This annual program is directed by eBay's Innovation group with executive sponsorship from the CEO and CPO. One key goal of the program is to leverage the collective brain-power of the company to make bigger bolder leaps forward in innovation. During eBay Hack Week, employees take a five day hiatus from the demands of their regularly scheduled work to enjoy dedicated time developing innovation projects wherever they see a business need or opportunity. Fifty-four teams develop new product and service ideas and deliver a work-in-progress demo to an cross-functional steering committee on day five. Over the next six weeks, the teams adjust and optimize their products and value propositions in preparation for eBay Expo. At Expo, teams compete for on-going executive sponsorship by pitching their projects to eBay employees across all departments who help vote-up the boldest and brightest projects. The mantra that fuels this innovation is simple and active: "Ideas aren't something you have. Ideas are something you do."
